Dominican Republic Water Project

Purpose
To develop a methodology of providing clean water and sanitation in developing countries that is comprehensive and sustainable.

Description
The Dominican Republic Water Project is an effort to develop a sustainable program providing clean water and education on hygiene to rural villages outside of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. It is a Rotary project that has the support of a number of clubs within District 6970 (North Florida) and District 7280 (Pennsylvania) as well as clubs throughout Rotary. Because of this structure, no single club or district can claim total credit for the work and as a result it is a true "Service above Self" project.

The program has partners both inside the Dominican Republic (Brugal Rum Company; Fr. Cesar Amaro, Bishop of the Catholic Church of the Puerto Plata Province; Inglesia Evangelica Sabaneta de Yasica; businesses and community leaders; and the Rotar clubs of the Dominican Republic) and the United States (Florida Chapter of the American Water Works Association; Mission Harvest; Crowley Marine)
